DUVAL AND MCCORMICK NAMED SPORTS SPOT STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Brevard, N.C. - Kayley Duval and Scott McCormick have been named the Sports Spot Brevard College Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of March as recognized on WSQL 1240 AM on Wednesday afternoon. The award is presented by Sports Spot in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.

Duval, a senior on the women’s tennis team, went 6-1 in singles matches in the month of March and went 8-1 in doubles matches as the Tornados women’s tennis team went 8-1 on the month. The Redding, Calif. native recorded her best match of the season against North Georgia, where she won 6-1, 6-1. Five of her six singles wins in the month were in straight sets. On the season, Duval has an overall record of 7-3 in singles play and 10-2 in doubles play.

McCormick, a junior on the men’s tennis team, went 6-2 in singles matches in the month, playing at the No. 1 spot for Coach Paul Thomson, while recording a 2-6 doubles record as the men’s tennis team went 4-4 in the month of March. The Adelaide, Australia native recorded his best match of the month against Malone College on March 9th, as his 6-2, 6-1 victory clinched the win for the Tornados. All six of McCormick’s singles wins this month were in straight sets and overall, he sports a 7-5 record in singles play and a 4-8 record in doubles play in the 2010 season.

These two athletes will be presented with certificates and action pictures recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of five female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2009-10 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
