Jefferson City, Tenn. - The #6 regionally ranked Carson-Newman Lady Eagles shutout the visiting Brevard Tornados for the sweep Wednesday afternoon, 7-0 and 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Tornados fall to 17-22 and 5-9 in the conference, while Carson-Newman improves to 32-7 and 10-4 in conference action.
Game 1: Carson-Newman 7, Brevard 0
Carson-Newman pitcher, Ashley Boyd held the Tornados to no runs on four hits to improve her record to 18-3.
Pitcher, Martika Elmore accounted for two of those hits, going two for three from the plate with two singles. Elmore, however, was charge with a loss falling to 13-11, after giving up seven runs on nine hits and four walks.
The Lady Eagles jumped on the Tornados early, scoring five runs in the first inning with two outs. Carson-Newman added two more runs in the sixth inning, spreading all seven RBIs among seven different players.
Chelsi Mallory, who came into the game leading the conference in doubles, knocked her 19th double of the season into left-center, while Maddie Fletcher hit a single for Brevard making Brevard’s hit total four.
Game 2: Carson-Newman 3, Brevard 0
Elmore held the Lady Eagles to three runs on five hits, but Brevard failed to score a run as Carson-Newman pitcher, Mary Shealy two-hit the Tornados.
Mallory and Becca Curlee were the only two Tornados to reach base on hits.
Once again Carson-Newman spread their RBIs throughout the line-up as Cassidy Skeen, Jessie Howard, Leah Price drove in their runs.
The Tornados return to action tomorrow when they travel to North Greenville to play the Crusaders in non-conference action.
