TORNADOS FINISH SEASON WITH SPLIT AT KING

Daniels and Koontz strong on the mound in game one

Bristol, Tenn. - The Brevard College Tornado baseball team concluded their 2010 season with a split at King College in a doubleheader Tuesday. Brevard scored four runs in the top of the sixth to earn a 5-2 win in the opener. King scored 10 runs over the final three innings to win 12-2 in five innings in the finale.

Brevard finishes the season 9-35 and 2-22 in South Atlantic Conference play.

King is 23-10 this year.

Brevard scored a single run in the third inning of game one to take an early lead on a Stephen Mullis fielder’s choice with the bases loaded.

Brett Brinson’s two-RBI double down the left field line put Brevard on top 3-2 in the sixth. Eric Renegar and Kramer Clark tacked on RBI singles to give the Tornados insurance runs.

Clark was three for four in the opener. Renegar and Brinson had two hits each.

Brennan Daniels started and pitched six innings on the way to his second win of the season. He allowed two runs on seven hits. Jacob Koontz worked a scoreless and hitless seventh inning to earn his first save this year.

Danny Williamson started and pitched six innings for King. He gave up five runs, four earned, on 11 hits. He struck out four and walked one in a losing effort.

Game One: Brevard 5 King 2

Kellen Moman had two hits and two RBI in game two but King scored ten unanswered runs on the way to a 12-2 win in five innings.

John Jordan had four hits in four at bats, drove in three runs and scored twice for King. He led off the game with a triple and scored on Ryan Kennedy’s sacrifice fly. Joe Craven also tripled and scored on Williamson’s sacrifice fly.

Jordan had another triple in the bottom of the third to drive in Shane Timberlake, who led off the inning with a bunt single to third.
Timberlake added a two-RBI single in the fourth as part of a three-run frame.

Moman’s two-run bases loaded double down the left field line in the third inning was the only offense for Brevard.

Joseph Lepore started and pitched three and two thirds innings and took the loss for Brevard.

Zach Winkle pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three to win his fourth game of the year.

King next travels to Bluefield State for a doubleheader Thursday April 22.
