SHAEFFER AND HOSTETTER NAMED TO WOMEN'S TENNIS ALL-SAC TEAM

Shaeffer receives award for second time, Hostetter for the first time

Rock Hill, S.C. – Junior Lindsay Shaeffer and sophomore Lindsay Hostetter were named to the 2010 All-South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Shaeffer becomes the second Brevard athlete to be a two-time first team All-SAC selection, joining men’s basketball player Jonathan Whitson, after a junior season which saw the Perrysburg, Ohio went 13-3 at No. 1 singles for Coach Paul Thomson, while teaming up with Kim Dixon and Elise Labus to go 7-9 at No. 1 doubles on the season. Shaeffer also possessed an 11-match win streak at one point during the season.

Hostetter was named to the All-SAC second team after playing No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Tornados this season. The Livonia, Mich. native went 11-4 on the season in singles play, while teaming up with Claire Dillman and Kayley Duval to go 11-4 in doubles competition.

Lincoln Memorial University standout freshman Leah Donoff, who led the Lady Railsplitters to the conference championship, headlines the 2010 South Atlantic Conference All-Conference Women’s Tennis Team.

Donoff, a freshman from Tipp City, OH (Tippecanoe High School), went 17-2 overall in her rookie season, including a 15-2 record at No. 1 singles, and was named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. She went 7-1 in singles play against conference opponents. She also went 16-2 at doubles and was unbeaten in doubles play with partner Melanie Smith.

Lincoln Memorial head coach Benny Collins was named Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Railsplitters to the conference championship with a 7-1 league record and 16-3 overall.

Carson-Newman College’s Elizabeth Sneed received the Scholar-Athlete Award for women’s tennis. Sneed is a senior with a double major in accounting and Spanish, and has a 3.91 GPA.

She is a three-time first-team All-SAC selection. This season, she was 4-4 in conference play at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, and 10-4 overall in singles play and 11-3 in doubles play.

She is a member of three honor societies, including serving as president of Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish honor society. She has been named to the Dean’s List every semester. Sneed has served as a senator in Carson-Newman’s student government association and volunteers with several civic groups. Elizabeth has worked with organizations that help clothe and feed needy families, and distribute food to low-income families, as well as preparing tax returns for those that need assistance.

Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, and conference co-champion Tusculum College each placed three on the All-Conference Team.

The All-Conference team is selected by the league’s head coaches.

The awards will be presented Friday after the women’s semifinals matches of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The tournament is being played at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
