TORNADOS COMPETE AT SOUTHEAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Women's 4x400-meter relay team sets new school record

Hickory, N.C. - Four Tornado track and field athletes notched top conference finishes at the Southeast Regional Track and Field Championships at Lenoir-Rhyne Univiersity in Hickory, N.C. April 23 and 24.

Matt Crowe ran a personal-best 15:46.2  in the Men’s 5000 meters to grab a fifth place finish and the top time among South Atlantic Conference runners.   

Willie Jones ran the 800-meters in 2:00.01 and finished fifth and turned in the best time among SAC Runners. He ran the 400-meters in 50.91 and placed sixth.    

Ryane Ledington earned two second place finishes, crossing the finish line in the 200-meters in 26.41 and finishing the 400-meters in a personal best 59.25. She was the fastest SAC runner in both races.  

The team of Shaton Pratt, Matt Lambert, Daniel Modahl, and Jones finished fourth in the 4 by 400 meter relay, turning in a time of 3:30.23.

Pratt ran the 200 meters in 22.61 to finish fifth.    

Dan Modahl grabbed a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.50. He finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 41.80 meters.

Lambert finished the 1500-meters in 4:19.22 and earned a 13th place result.    

Josh Ross competed in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 20.09 to finish 13th. He ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.94 to finish 11th.    

On the women’s side Ariel Muiselaar finished fourth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:34.63.   

Muiselaar, Ledington, Chynna Shipp, and Lanie Converso ran the 4 by 400-meter relay and set a Brevard College record with a 4:24.76 finish, breaking the previous record by almost five seconds. The team finished fifth in the race.   

Converso crossed the finish line in the 800-meters in 2:37.65 to earn sixth place.    

Shipp ran to an eighth place result in the 400-meters with a time of 1:05.57.   

Melissa Schmidt covered 1500-meters in 5:45.36 and finished 11th.   

Hannah Beck finished 21st in the 800-meters in 3:04.57   

Nine of the twelve Tornado athletes who competed at the Championships placed.
