Rock Hill, S.C. - The 2009-10 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll was announced from the SAC office today, with 821 student-athletes recognized for their achievements in the classroom.
The SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least one season in the conference-sponsored sports of football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf.
The 821 student-athletes represent 33 U.S. states, 33 foreign countries and three Canadian provinces. Twenty-five percent (205) of the honorees held grade point averages of 3.75 or higher. Of those, 22 student-athletes carried a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The sport of baseball had the most honorees with 110, followed by women’s soccer with 105, and football with 105. They were followed by softball (73), men’s soccer and volleyball with 72 each, women’s basketball (48), women’s cross country (47), men’s tennis (40), women’s tennis (39), men’s golf (36), men’s cross country (30), women’s golf (23) and men’s basketball (21).
For the fourth year in a row, Newberry College led the way with 135 student-athletes recognized. Tusculum College placed 100 on the honor roll, followed by Catawba College (93), Brevard College (91), Wingate University (88), Mars Hill College (86), Lincoln Memorial University (79), Lenoir-Rhyne University (76), and Carson-Newman College with 73.
