Due West, S.C. – Despite taking a 1-0 lead into half-time the Brevard College men’s soccer team was unable to hold the one-goal lead and dropped their season opening match with Erskine 2-1 on Thursday evening.
Patrick Urmson (Rauma, Finland) set up junior Scott Schuurman (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) for the Tornados only goal of the match. Urmson’s corner kick was sent into the back of the net by Schuurman at the 20:43 mark.
Erskine came out in the second half and scored two goals to edge the Tornados. Flying Fleet sophomore Alex Connally headed in a direct kick from Jack Kimber at 69:48 to even things up at one. Kimber put Erskine ahead 2-1 when he was awarded a penalty kick with just 8:16 remaining.
Brevard falls to 0-1 and head back to South Carolina on Friday evening to take-on Winthrop University at 7 p.m.
