Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s soccer team opened their home schedule with a loss to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. The Lady Tornados were unable to create many offensive chances taking just four shots in the 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was very evenly fought as both teams struggled to put the ball on-net. Belmont Abbey put fired off five shots while the Tornados were only able to take two. Both shots came off of the foot of junior, Bailey Varley (Concord, N.C.). Brevard took the Crusaders into half-time all evened-up at zero.
It took just three shots in the second half and the Tornados were faced with a 1-0 deficit when Nicole Voets put one in after being set-up by Rebecca Mateo.
The Tornados took two shots in the remainder of the half. Varley had a shot blocked, and Allie Hovis (Charlotte, N.C.) missed a breakaway shot just wide left with just 25 seconds left in the game.
Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.) made the start in goal for Brevard. She was faced with 15 shots, six on goal with five saves.
The women are back in action when they host the Converse College Valkyries on Wednesday, September 8. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Brevard College Soccer Field.
