Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados men’s golf team teed off for the first time this weekend, participating in the Montreat Invitational at the nearby Glen Cannon Country Club.
Freshman T.J. Hoard led Brevard during the two-day event, finishing tied for 10th overall, as the Tornados finished ninth among the teams that competed.
Hoard led the Tornados through the first round of the event, carding a 78 in the opening round, while Zach Christy and Thomas Rennie both recorded 80s. Michael Stamper and Mike Jones rounded out the group of five Coach Matt Adamski placed in the field, finishing the first day with scores of 82 and 83 respectively.
On the second day of the event, Hoard brought in one of the best rounds of the tournament, finishing with a 73 for a two-day score of 151. Rennie and Stamper both improved on the second day of the event as well, as each finished with a 77. Rennie finished with a 157 in the event, while Stamper closed out with a 159.
Jones also improved on his score, carding an 81 on day two to finish with a 164, with Christy rounding out the group with a score of 170.
The Tornados are back on the links on Friday, September 17th, at the 2010 Honda of Columbia Fall Classic, held at the Mid-Carolina Country Club in Prosperity, S.C.
