The Brevard College Women’s Tennis team began the BC Mountain Invitational Tournament this afternoon, hosting teams from Carson-Newman, Pfeiffer, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, North Georgia College and West Virginia.
Beginning the match in the singles A draw, Lindsay Hostetter fell to WVU’s Cardenas 6-3, 6-0, while Lindsay Shaeffer advanced to the second round to face GSU’s Kegereis after defeating Carson-Newman’s Cappadona 6-0, 6-3.
In the B draw, Jennifer Nyman advanced to the second round after receiving a bye. Kayley Duval fell to Brooks from Carson-Newman, 6-0, 6-3.
From the C draw, Kim Dixon fell to WVU’s Blaskovicova 6-0, 6-1. Merek Slagle also lost to Carson-Newman’s Sorah, 6-2, 6-3.
Starting off the doubles matches, in the A flight, Hostetter and Shaeffer won their first match over Burton and Plisbury of WVU. In their second match though, they fell to the team from Carson-Newman, Barlett and Snead, in a closely fought battle, 9-8.
In the Doubles B flight, Dixon and Nyman fell to Brooks and Cappadona from Carson-Newman in the first round, 8-3.
The Doubles C flight team of Duval and Slagle dropped their match against Blaskovica and Pantovic, the duo from WVU, 8-0.
The women’s tournament continues Saturday, September 6, 2008, with the first matches being served up at 8 a.m. on the courts located at Brevard College.
