Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s soccer team fell to 0-2 in South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday when they were handed a loss by the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. They were beaten 6-0 and are now 0-7-1 on the season. The Bears improved to 5-1 with a 2-0 record in SAC play.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored six goals on 15 shots in the game and used a pair of hat-tricks to sew up their second conference victory.
Dave Bailey opened up the scoring within the first minute when he scored on a penalty kick at the 54 second mark. Almost 27 minutes later, Bailey found the back of the net for a second time when he took a pass from Martin Graham and was able to beat the Brevard keeper, Pauli Jussila (Valkeakoski, Finland). In the 31st minute, Chibuso Nwosu scored on a one-on-one for his first goal of the match at 31:41, and the Tornados fell behind 3-0 which is where the score stayed until the second half.
After halftime Brevard came out trying to claw back into the match, but at the 62:11 mark, Bailey found the net again when he scored off of a pass from George Wilson to put the Bears up 4-0. Nwosu was able to score twice more in the match as well. Both of his goals came on headers off of free kicks by Oliver Worth giving them the final tally of 6-0.
Jussila spent the entire game in goal for Brevard. Lenoir-Rhyne started Tom Heath and he played 62:11 in net for the Bears. Stefan Dill relieved him for the final 27:49 of play.
The Tornados are back in action at home on Saturday, September 25th when they host SAC rival Lincoln Memorial University. The men’s game will follow the Tornado women’s soccer team. The women’s game is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the men’s to follow at 4 p.m. at the Brevard College Soccer Field.
