Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s soccer team couldn’t find a groove in their third South Atlantic Conference match of the year as they fell 5-0 to the visiting Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University. The Tornados fell to 0-8-1 on the season and 0-3 in conference play with the loss.
The Railsplitters opened up the scoring within the first four minutes when Mackenzie Wilde put a shot past Jack Shaw (Simpsonville, S.C.) at the 3:11 mark. Wilde took a cross from Fernando Silveira inside the box giving LMU a 1-0 lead.
It took Lincoln Memorial almost 20 minutes to score again, but Jimmy Vandenhurk was able to beat the Tornados keeper at the 22:32 mark, giving the Railsplitters a 2-0 edge heading into the half.
LMU scored quickly again in the second half. Robbie Curtis took a pass from Lucas Pereira in the 53rd minute and netted one to take a three goal lead. Vandenhurk added another goal at the 72:07 marker, while Tom Clark scored a goal in the 77th minute to take the final 5-0 score.
Shaw played all 90 minutes of the game in goal for Brevard.
