Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team added five new players to their roster during the offseason. The 2010-11 Tornados brought in a pair of transfer students and three freshmen student-athletes to their squad this season.
Brevard adds two transfer sophomore student athletes to the team. Candace Fritz and Micheala Watkins both come to BC after serving their freshman seasons with other basketball programs in the area.
Fritz is a native of North East, Maryland and attended UNC-Asheville for her freshman year. Fritz is a 5-11 forward who appeared in eight games for the Bulldogs last season, starting in three. Watkins comes to Brevard after spending her first year at Catawba Valley Community College where she enjoyed great success. The 5-6 guard is from Forest City, N.C. and was named the team MVP and earned all-region honors while playing for Catawba Valley CC in 2009-10.
Brevard also added three freshmen to their team for the upcoming season. Chezney McJunkin of Easley, S.C. is a 5-8 guard that should provide good competition at guard with her size and skill. McJunkin was named to the all-region team while playing at Pickens High School.
Jazzmin Brown is a 5-4 guard from Salisbury, N.C. is coming off of a successful high school career at Carson High School. Brown was also a member of the Carson High School track and field team.
The Tornados also added some size in their incoming freshmen class by picking up 6-1 Jennifer Martin of Asheboro, N.C. Martin should provide a big post presence for the Tornados in upcoming seasons.
These five newcomers are added to the roster of 11 returning players including three starters.
