Swannanoa, N.C. - The Brevard College Men’s Soccer team traveled to Swannanoa, N.C. to face off with Warren Wilson College Saturday afternoon and left empty-handed. The game ended in a 4-2 Tornado defeat to the Owls.
For the season, Warren Wilson improves to 2-1, while Brevard falls to 0-3-1.
Warren Wilson got on the board in the third minute, as Kyle Carpenter scored off passes from Alex Babbitt and Max Bresor. The Owls led 1-nil with the goal.
Brevard evened up the game in the 34th minute, as Villie Toivanen hammered home a shot past goalkeeper Brett Buffington. The goal was Toivanen's first of his collegiate career, and made the score 1-1.
However, Warren Wilson wasn’t done scoring in the half. Luke Bernard answered the Tornado goal within seconds, scoring off a feed from Sefton Daniels to give the Owls a 2-1 advantage. Bernand put in another goal in the 41st minute, this time shooting past Tornado goalie Jerry Hatsady off assists from Max Bressor and Philip Campell.
Bernard completed the hat trick in the 72nd minute as he beat Hatsady again, this time on a cross from Kyle Carpenter, and the Owls were in full control at 4-1.
The Tornados responded with a consolation goal from Niclas Stolt off an assist from Kyle Stanforth in the 86th minute to bring the score back to 4-2, but time ran out before the Tornados could muster more offense.
The Tornados are back in action Wednesday, September 10 at home where they face Newberry College. Kickoff starts at 4 pm. The Owls travel to the Bluegrass State for a meeting with Union College on Tuesday the 9th.
