Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s soccer team was able to keep the match close through the first half but fell to the Bulldogs of Wingate University on Saturday afternoon. The Tornados dropped to Wingate 6-1 as they were outshot 25-11. Brevard falls to 1-11-1 on the season and 1-4-0 in South Atlantic Conference play with the loss.
Wingate opened up the scoring in the first 10 minutes of play as Jamie McKenna put one in off of a rebound at the 8:29 mark. Jack Vundum took the shot that set up McKenna’s goal giving Wingate an early 1-0 lead.
Brevard was able to tie things up when Jami Uuttu (Naantali, Finland) took a pass from Jaime Villacis (Miami, Fla.) and fired one from 20 yards out beating the Wingate keeper for his second goal of the season, nodding things up at one goal a piece at the 13:10 mark in the half.
Wingate was able to return fire with three more goals before the end of the first half. McKenna found the net for a second time at 19:54 and Fabricio Barancoski scored two before the half making it 4-1 at halftime.
It took Wingate a while before they found the net again scoring their final two goals in the final five minutes of play. Paulo Brunetto took a pass from Gui Lima to beat Jack Shaw (Simpsonville, S.C.) giving the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead. Vundum was awarded a penalty kick in the 88th minute scoring to give Wingate the final 6-1 edge.
Shaw spent all of the game in goal for Brevard. The Bulldogs fired 25 shots on Shaw and he made seven saves in the game.
The Tornados head to Anderson to take on the Trojans on Tuesday. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
