Banner Elk, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s soccer team fell to the Lees-McRae Bobcats in a non-conference match-up on Friday evening. The Bobcats defeated the Tornados 3-0 which drops Brevard to 3-10-1 on the season. The Tornados remain 1-5 in South Atlantic Conference play.
All three goals were scored in the second half as the match remained all nodded up after a stellar performance by Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.) in the match. Webster was able to make nine saves after being shelled with 23 shots.
The scoring opened up in the 60th minute when Katelyn Custer took a touch pass from MaryBeth Sullivan beating Webster on the far post giving the Bobcats the 1-0 lead late in the game.
Lees-McRae scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of play. Brooke Santerre took a shot from 25 yards out. The sinking ball was able to get by Brevard’s keeper to put the Bobcats up 2-0. With just 1:06 left on the clock, Lees-McRae added their third and final goal. Kaitlyn Kerrigan put one into the far top corner off of a pass from Custer that gave Lees-McRae the final 3-0 edge.
The Bobcats outshot Brevard 23-5 in the loss, while being awarded with twice as many corner kicks. Lees-McRae earned 10 corners while Brevard had just five.
Webster spent all 90 minutes in goal for Brevard. Though she allowed three goals, she had nine saves in the match.
Brevard returns home on Wednesday, October 20th when they host the Eagles of Carson-Newman. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Brevard College Soccer Field.
