Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team was unable to overtake the Newberry Wolves on Saturday afternoon as they fell in straight sets. Newberry took the South Atlantic Conference match-up 25-22, 25-21, and 25-11. With the loss Brevard fell to 2-18 and 0-14 in SAC play on the season.
Kortney Conner led the Brevard attack with nine kills while Jamie Atkinson added five of her own. Bethany Stevenson had 15 set assists, while Rebecca Schoonover and Sydney Yeomans led the defensive line with 13 and 10 digs respectively.
Anne Staudinger led the Wolves attack with 12 kills while Kara Harris had 10 kills of her own. Samantha Parrish added nine kills in the win. Defensively Nadia Andrade and Harris led the team with 10 and 11 digs.
Brevard played Newberry point for point through most of the first set before trailing late 23-16. The Tornados were able to score six points to the Wolves final two, but came up just short falling 25-22 in the first set of the match.
After falling behind 9-1 early in the second set, Brevard rallied to come within four but fell 25-21 in the second set.
The third and final set was all Wolves as they took it 25-11.
The Tornados are back in action when they travel to Southern Wesleyan University to take on the Warriors. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Central, S.C.
