Central, S.C. - Jamie Atkinson and Ashlie Morrison had nine kills apiece, while Jordei Osby added four kills and three blocks, but Amber Garrett led Southern Wesleyan with 14 kills as the Warriors defeated the Tornados on Wednesday evening, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16.
The Tornados (2-19) hit 10.0 percent on the evening, led by the nine kill performances by Atkinson and Morrison. Bethany Stevenson contributed 21 set assists in the match, while Lindsey Rogers, Atkinson and Rebecca Schoonover each had a service ace. Defensively, Schoonover led the Tornados with 12 digs, while at the net, Osby led the way with a match-high three blocks.
Southern Wesleyan (15-7) was led by Garrett as the Warriors hit 22.5 percent from the field in the match. Tierza Rangel added eight kills and Kayla Propes had seven to pace the SWU attack, while Cassie Gravely and Emiliy Cothran combined for 35 set assists. Defensively, Keni Abercrombie led the team with a match-high 18 digs, while Garrett was the team leader at the net with two total blocks.
The Tornados continue on the road this weekend as they participate in the Columbia Tri-Match hosted by Columbia College.
