Newton, N.C. - The Brevard College Cross Country Team raced at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational Saturday October 23 in Newton, N.C. The Tornados competed against runners from 10 different institutions at Southside Park.
The Brevard women’s team placed 9th in the 11-team field. Angela Canale posted the best time for the Tornados in the Women’s 5000-meter run, completing the course in 19 minutes and 39 seconds, giving her a 4th place finish in the 82-woman field. Olivia Fawcett followed at 21:55 and a 38th place finish, while Ariel Musielaar crossed the line in 22:54. Danielle Messer put in a time of 23:08. Grace Skiles crossed the finish line at 23:47, while Danielle Brown finished at 23:58. Liza Fortenberry finished at 27:52. Lenoir Rhyne’s Kate Griewisch won the race in 18:24. The Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne won the team competition.
The BC men placed fifth in the nine-team meet. Johnathan Lavelle ran the fastest for Brevard in the Men’s 8,000-Meter race on the way to a 28:11 finish to place 23rd in the 77-man field. Jordan Tager finished with a 28:25 and a 29th place finish while Erik Gibbs ran for 28:37 and a 33rd place result. Michael Allsopp crossed in 28:49. Josh Mower covered the course in 29:21 and Tiffen Tapia came in at 29:55. Chris Shore finished up at a 30:15 mark. Christopher Shelton was able to cross in 31:20. Simon Holzapfel of Tusculum won the race with a 25:10 finish. The Mars Hill Lions took the men’s team title.
The Tornados run again on November 6th when they travel to Wingate, N.C. to race in the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
