BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women’s Tennis squad wrapped up their first fall tournament of the year, the BC Mountain Invitational, this weekend at the Brevard Tennis Courts. Coach Paul Thomson sent six ladies into action this weekend.
After winning her first match on Friday, Lindsay Shaffer faced Georgia Southern’s Kegeris Saturday in the quarterfinals of the A draw. Kegeris advanced with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, and eventually went on to capture the A draw championship Sunday morning. Shaeffer played West Virginia’s Dantovic in an exhibition match Sunday, winning a pro-set match, 8-5.
Lindsay Hostetter faced Carson-Newman’s Bartlett Saturday in the back draw of the A flight and lost a close one, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Sunday Hostetter won a pro-set exhibition over West Virginia’s Wickline, 8-5.
In the B draw, Brevard’s Jennifer Nyman fell Saturday to West Virginia’s LaFortune, 6-1, 6-1. Nyman then was beaten in her back draw match, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, by North Georgia’s Dreaden. West Virginia’s Elkin took home the B draw title.
After dropping her opening B draw match Friday, Brevard’s Kayley Duval faced North Georgia’s Boteva Saturday in the back draw. Duval took the first set but not the match, falling 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Both of Brevard’s C flight players competed in the back draw Saturday after losing on Friday. Kim Dixon fell to Carson-Newman’s Moulton, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8, and Merek Slagle lost to North Georgia’s Cash, 6-0, 6-2. Georgia Southern’s Fuller won the C draw championship.
The Tornado tennis squads return to the court next week and the second BC Mountain Invitational.
