Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados football team closes out the 2010 regular season this weekend as they make the trip to nearby Mars Hill, N.C. as they travel to take on SAC foe and regionally-ranked Mars Hill College on Saturday, November 13th.

Brevard (3-7, 0-6 SAC) takes to the road for the final time of the season, coming off of a loss this past weekend against Newbery College, 31-3. Kelvin Jeter broke the 1,000 rushing mark for the season, becoming the first Tornado running back to eclipse the mark in a single season in modern program history, picking up 90 yards on 18 carries, while Neville Bryce recorded 44 yards on eight carries. Defensively, Trey Jenkins had a BC season-high 17 tackles in the game, but the Tornados were unable to overcome the visiting Wolves as Parker Hite led Newberry through the air, going 11 of 14 for 107 yards and two scores as the Tornados fell to 0-6 in conference play on the season.

Luis Cruz and P.J. Gore set new school records last week for Mars Hill (5-5, 3-3 SAC) as Cruz set a new school single season passing record, while Gore broke the 1,000 receiving yard mark on the season. Jonas Randolph rushed 23 times for 140 yards and a pair of scores, but Wingate’s Cody Haffly threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs defeated the Lions, 48-29.

This will be the 18th meeting all-time between the two teams, with Mars Hill holding the 10-5-2 advantage, including wins in all four meetings since the Tornados reinstated their football program back in 2006. Last season, the Lions handed the Tornados their first home loss of the season, defeating Brevard 28-13 in Brevard Memorial Stadium as Cruz and Jon Richt combined for 258 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

Brevard comes into this weekend’s contest as the NCAA’s fourth-best rushing attack, averaging 289.2 yards per game on the ground, let by the Jeter, as the freshman slot leads the Tornados with 1,020 rushing yards on the season, averaging 8.3 yards per carry, as well as picking up six rushing touchdowns on the season. Bryce is second on the team with 566 rushing yards on the season to go with eight rushing touchdowns, and currently is second in the BC career rushing yards record book, sitting 45 yards behind John Taylor’s career total of 1,209. Michael Crumbaker, Thadus Benton III and Derek Church have also combined for 1,080 rushing yards on the season, as well as 16 rushing touchdowns to help pace Coach Paul Hamilton’s offense.

Crumbaker has led the Brevard passing offense on the season, completing 31 of 84 passing attempts for 516 yards and five touchdowns. Eric Watts has been the recipient of the majority of the passes, with 17 catches for 227 yards and three touchdowns, while Derek Church has four catches for 91 yards. Benton has added two touchdown receptions on the season to round out the BC passing game.

Trey Jenkins leads the Brevard defensive efforts on the year, sitting fifth overall in the South Atlantic Conference with 84 tackles on the season, averaging 8.4 per game. Prince Simunyu is also among the SAC leaders with 66 tackles on the season, while recording five tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Salonik Amos leads the BC defensive backs with 59 tackles and is among the SAC leaders with 12 passes defensed, including two interceptions on the year, while Rufus Jenkins is the team leader with 6.5 tackles for loss and Ryan Wannamaker is the team leader with three sacks on the season.

Randolph headlines the Lions offense and leads both Mars Hill and the South Atlantic Conference on the season with 1,264 rushing yards on the year, averaging 126.4 yards per game and 13 rushing touchdowns. Randolph is also ninth in the NCAA Division II in rushing yards per game in leading the Mars Hill offense on the season.

Richt has taken the majority of the snaps behind center for Mars Hill this season, completing 123 of 246 passes for 2,125 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season, while Cruz is 27 of 45 for 435 yards and three scores. Gore is the team’s receiving leader and is among the SAC leaders with 1,014 yards on the season, catching 44 passes, with nine going for touchdowns. Allen Woerner and Alex Rose had also caught at least 20 passes apiece on the season, combining for 542 yards, with Woerner contributing six touchdown receptions to the team totals.

Rudy Cabral leads the Lions defense and the SAC in tackles per game on the season, with 95 tackles overall, averaging 9.5 tackles per game on the year. Josh Baker is also in the top ten in the SAC in tackles, averaging 7.4 per game, while Marzarius Samon and Maurice Harris are both among the team and SAC leaders in tackles for loss and sacks, as Harris leads the SAC in both categories with 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 11 sacks on the season.
