Brevard, N.C. - Rebecca Schoonover capped off a stellar career with the Brevard College Tornados with 15 digs and Kortney Conner added 11 kills, but BC was unable to overcome visiting King College as the Tornados fell to the Tornado in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 28-26.
The Tornados (3-26) finish up the regular season hitting 12.0 percent from the floor, led by Conner as the freshman outside hitter connected on 26.7 percent of her attacks from the field. Jamie Atkinson and Ashlie Morrison each had seven kills in the defeat, while Bethany Stevenson led the team with 24 set assists. Sydney Yeomans added three service aces, while contributing 10 digs on the backline, while Atkinson led all players with four blocks in the match.
Kaitlyn Musick led King (27-8) on the evening with a match-high 14 kills, while Morgan Machen added 12 for the visitors. Shannon Earwood set up the Tornado attack with 41 set assists, while Amber Jones contributed offensively with three service aces. Rachel Harding led the team with 12 digs defensively, while Sarah Van Goethem led the Tornado at the net with two blocks.
Schoonover finishes her career with Brevard with 1,591 digs, overtaking Maegan Bodiford in the final match of the season to finish second in digs in the BC all-time record book. She finished her career with two matches in which she eclipsed 30 digs in a match, including last year on November 6th against Mars Hill, where she recorded 37 in the Tornados victory over the Lions. A two-time BC Volleyball captain, Rebecca was an Honorable Mention recipient for the prestigious 2009 Wooden Cup and plans to graduate in the spring with a degree in Business and Organizational Leadership.
