Charlotte, N.C. - The Brevard College cross country teams competed in the Southeast Region Cross Country Championship race held by Queen’s University at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday. Angela Canale led Tornados by placing in the top 20 with an 18th place finish in the regional championship race.
On the men’s side of thing Jonathon Lavelle led the Tornados with a 93rd place finish in the 164-man race. Lavelle was able to cover the 10,000-meter race with a time of 35:50. Jordan Tager was next to finish for the Brevard men with a 107th place finish after coming across the finish line in 36:19. As, a team the Tornados placed 22nd in a 25 team field. The host Royals of Queen’s were able to take the team title while Columbus State’s Meshack Koyiaki took the individual title with a 29:45 finish.
Angela Canale led the Tornados’ women’s team with an 18th place finish in the regional championship. Canale finished up the 6,000-meter race with a 23:11 beating out 170 runners in the 188-woman field. Ariel Musielaar was the next to finish for Brevard as she came in after 27:29 on the course. Musielaar placed 147th for in the race. Olivia Fawcett finished up shortly after Musielaar as she placed 152nd. As a team the Tornados placed in 24 th in the 28-team race. Queen’s was able to take the team title while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Greiwich took the individual title with a 20:55 time.
The race at McAlpine park finishes up the season for the BC Cross Country team. The Tornados had one runner made the All-SAC team as Angela Canale was named first team after placing fifth in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship race on November 6th at Wingate.
