Taylor Hiatt signed her letter of intent to play for the Tornados

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College athletic department and head coach Shannon Reid are pleased to announce that Mount Airy High School senior Taylor Hiatt signed her national letter of intent to play for the Tornados on November 10, 2010.

Hiatt is from Mount Airy, North Carolina where she plays under the high school head coach Howard Mayo. The two-time All-Conference award winner is a 5’9 frontcourt player, who has played all three frontcourt positions for Mount Airy High School and will bring a versatile inside and outside threat to the Brevard offense.

Hiatt is a two-time first-team All-Northwest Conference selection, with similar statistical averages of eight and a half points and six and a half rebounds for both her sophomore and junior seasons. She is also an 80% free throw shooter, and led the Mount Airy Lady Bears to a 27-3 record last year, all while advancing to the Elite Eight of the North Carolina high school playoffs.

"We are very excited to have Taylor join our Brevard Family. She is a hard working athlete that brings an aggressive style of play to our system. Her ability to defend, rebound, and score from different positions will allow her to make an immediate impact in our program. I look forward to her future as a Tornado." Coach Reid.

Hiatt not only excels on the court but takes pride in her responsibilities within the classroom, carrying an exceptional grand point average. She was being recruited by Pfeiffer University, Lees-McRae College, North Greenville University, and St. Bonaventure before deciding that Brevard was the choice for her.

The Brevard College women’s basketball team continues their season on Saturday when they open their South Atlantic Conference schedule with Anderson University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
