King College was able to top BC at the Student Center

Bristol, Tenn. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team was downed on Monday night at King College. The Tornados fell 68-56 as they shot just 37.5% from the field in the game. With the loss Brevard falls to 4-8 on the 2010-11 season.

After scoring the first two points of the game on a pair of free-throws by Lindsay Brendle (High Point, N.C.), Brevard and King traded baskets back and forth until King went on a 16-3 run from the 11:37 to the 4:14 mark in the first half. The Tornados were able to outscore King by seven in the final four minutes of play as they trailed 30-21 after the first 20 minutes of play.

Brevard was able to come out and put pressure on King in the second half. Brevard was able to come back and tie things up 41-41 with 12:06 remaining in the game. Micheala Watkins (Forest City, N.C.) hit a jumper to give Brevard their first lead since the 17:29 mark in the first-half. Following the 43-41 lead, King and Brevard traded a few baskets until King went on another 16-3 run giving them a 64-40 lead with just over three minutes left in the game. The Tornados were unable to surmount a comeback as they dropped the game by a final tally of 68-56.

Micheala Watkins led the way for Brevard offensively by scoring 18 points for the Tornados. Lindsay Brendle and Asheley Watkins (Bostic, N.C.) each had 10 points in the loss. Both Micheala and Asheley Watkins had three steals while Asheley was able to pull down seven rebounds.

The Tornados go back to work on Wednesday when they hit the hardwood at Boshamer Gymnasium in a South Atlantic Conference match-up with the Carson-Newman Eagles at 6 p.m.
