Misenheimer, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s soccer team outplayed the Pfeiffer Falcons in men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon, winning on the road 1-0.
With the win the Tornados improve to 1-4-1 on the year, while Pfeiffer falls to 1-4 with the loss.
The Brevard men came out strong in the first half pressuring the Falcon defense. The Tornados used their quick speed to tear through the midfield. Brevard’s Kyle Stanforth and Henri Erti kept the pressure on in Pfeiffer’s defensive half, eventually setting the table for a Tornados game winning goal.
Brevard knocked the lone goal of the game in during the 38th minute as the Tornados got a direct free kick by way of a Pfeiffer foul just outside of the penalty box. BC senior midfielder Kyle Hamilton notched the game winning goal, as he headed the ball past Pfeiffer goalkeeper Alex Moreno after receiving the direct kick from Stanforth on a far post run.
With the 1-0 lead heading into the second half, the Tornados survived a strong start by Pfeiffer, as the Falcons put two shots on goal and recorded two cornerkicks within the first three minutes.
Tensions mounted as the heat and play intensified. It also helped that six yellow cards were handed out throughout the match, five of them going to the Pfeiffer Falcons.
BC freshman goalkeeper Jerry Hatsady picked up his first shutout and his first win as a Tornado on Saturday afternoon, turning away 10 Pfeiffer shots on goal.
The Tornados will jump back into SAC play on Thursday, September 18, when they will travel to Hickory, N.C. to play a 7:30 p.m. night cap with the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears. Pfeiffer will play their first conference match on Monday, September 15, in Misenheimer against Mt. Olive.
