TORNADOS HOST WBCA PINKZONE DAY

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College basketball teams hosted their annual WBCA Pink Zone™ Day, on Wednesday, February 16th, against Lincoln Memorial University.

All Brevard College basketball players, coaches and support staff wore pink t-shirts, sponsored by the Transylvania Regional Hospital throughout the game day events to promote awareness of the disease. All proceeds from the games are to be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Additional donations were also collected throughout the evening’s festivities. Donations from the February 16th events exceeded $475.

The Brevard College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee sold Breast Cancer Awareness bracelets at the game, while the Transylvania Regional Hospital had a table set up in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium handing out informative pamphlets and literature on breast cancer. The Peer Health Advocacy Team also provided a booth in the lobby and the BC women’s starting lineup was announced alongside local breast cancer survivors.

During halftime of the of the women’s game, Dr. Brian Barrow of Transylvania Regional Hospital, took the floor to speak on some statistics that follow with the dangers of breast cancer. The crowd was also touched by the story of the life of a local community member who is also a breast cancer survivor, from her diagnosis, through her treatment.

791 students, fans, and alumni filled the seats of Boshamer Gymnasium for this worthy cause, as the Tornados look to continue their support of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund for years to come.

The WBCA Pink Zone™ initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond, which Brevard is proud to be a part of.
