Waleska, Ga. - The Brevard College women's soccer team hit the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to the state of Georgia for the first time in 2008, but they came defeated, falling to Reinhardt College, 5-1. BC freshman Latoshia Hopewell scored her third goal of the season off a beautiful pass from Emily Belchyk, but it wasn’t enough for the Tornados as they fell to 2-4 on the season. Reinhardt improves to 3-1 with the win.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles took the lead in the 47th minute when Megan Parker found a gap in the BC defense, scoring off a long shot from the left side. Linday Taylor doublesd the lead in the 50th minute after the Tornados committed a foul in the 18-yard box. Taylor was called on to take the penalty and she delivered, stretching the Eagle advantage to 2-nil. Taylor struck again in the 53rd minute, receiving a cross from Parker and blasting a shot past BC keeper Sydney Douglas to make the score 3-0.
Parker notched her second score of the game in the 60th minute off a through pass from Hailey Pope, all but sealing Brevard's fate and increasing the gap to 4-nil. Reserve forward Alli Bennett ended the Reinhardt scoring barrage in the 72nd minute after linking up with fellow sub Katherine Amatulli to put a 5-spot on the Eagle side of the board.
Hopewell broke up the shutout bid with a consolation goal in the 90th and final minute, scoring off the pass from Belchyk from the left side of the penalty box. It was too little too late, however, as the final scoreline would rest at 5-1.
The Tornados are back in action on Wednesday, September 17, as they will host the North Greenville Crusaders. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Reinhardt travels to Covenant College Wednesday for a 5 p.m. showdown.
