Newberry, S.C. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team was unable to pull off a victory in their final road game of the 2010-2011 season. The Tornados fell 58-41 to the Newberry College Wolves. The Tornados are now 6-21 and 2-15 in South Atlantic Conference play this year.
Newberry was able to jump out to a quick 14-2 lead over the Tornados. The Wolves continued to build on their quick lead and led by as many as 19, 26-7 with 5:51 left in the opening half. Brevard was able to cut into the lead a little in the final five minutes as they trailed by 13, 33-20 heading into the locker room at the half.
Brevard and Newberry opened up the second half by trading buckets back and forth, coming as close as 11 in the opening eight minutes of the half. After coming within 11, the Wolves were able to jump back out on top of Brevard and garnered a 20 point lead over the Tornados with 4:34 left in the game. Brevard was unable to climb back from the 20 point deficit as they fell by a 58-41 final.
Amanda Whitaker (Asheville, N.C.) led the Tornados with 12 points and four rebounds. Holli Flippo (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) was good for seven points and eight rebounds in the loss. Anna Schlobohm (Greensboro, N.C.) and Micheala Watkins (Forest City, N.C.) each chipped-in six points a piece.
The Tornados hit the hardwood again for their final game of the season on Saturday, February 26 th when they play host to the Wingate University Bulldogs.
