Florence, S.C. – The Brevard College softball team split a pair of games in their doubleheader at the Patriot Invitational on Sunday morning. Brevard was able to top the Hillsdale Chargers 3-0 in Sunday’s opener, but fell 7-0 in their loss to the Armstrong Atlantic State in the second game.
The Tornados moved to 18-7 after their split in Florence.
Game One: Brevard 3, Hillsdale 0
The Tornados did all of their work at the plate in the third inning as they scored three runs on three hits in the inning. Ally Davenport (High Point, N.C.) drew a one-out walk and late advanced to second on a Brittany Fowler (Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA) single. Kayla Dorsey (West Palm Beach, Fla.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both Davenport and Fowler up a base. Following the bunt, Chelsi Mallory (Mechanicsville, Va.) roped a double down the left field line, bringing home both runners, giving BC a 2-0 lead. Kayla Clemens (Sebring, Fla.) followed Mallory’s double with a single to right center that scored Mallory from second to give Brevard the 3-0 lead they needed to top Hillsdale.
Alyssa Miller (Davie, Fla.) threw a no-hitter, the first of her career, against the Chargers. Miller moved to 9-3 on the season as she walked just two and struck out five in the Tornados’ victory.
