Coach Shinohara released the names of a group of three recruits for the 2011 season

Brevard, N.C. – Head coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara is pleased to announce that he has added three commitments to the 2011 Brevard College Tornados women’s soccer team.

Chelsea Holtsclaw, Elizabeth Graham, and Althea Dunn are all incoming freshmen that have decided to join the Brevard College athletic family this fall.

Chelsea Holtsclaw – Holtsclaw joins the Tornados from West Forsyth High School. The Clemmons, North Carolina native played for Scott Bilton at West Forsyth. Academically, she is an honor roll member. On the field she was awarded West Forsyth’s Most Valuable Player award and named Forward of the Year for Bilton’s squad. Holtsclaw has also competed with the Triad Elite Soccer Club under Coach Jason Brenner where she found success as forward as well. She has scored over 700 goals in her high-school and club soccer careers.

When asked about Holtsclaw, Coach Shinohara stated, "Chelsea is a critical finisher, someone we have been looking to bring into this program for a long time. We believe Chelsea will bring something special to the front line and we are thrilled to have her as a big scoring threat."

Elizabeth Graham – Graham joins the BC women’s soccer team from Mooresville, North Carolina. She attends Lake Norman High School where she plays for Jon Mertes. Graham played basketball as well as soccer at Lake Norman. She was a four year varsity player for Mertes. She played on the three-time Region 3 State Cup Championship team. She was named to the Conference Championship team in 2008 and 2009, while also being named to the 2008 District Championship team. In the classroom, Graham is an honor roll student at Lake Norman High School.

"It is always exciting to have another family member come on board here at Brevard. Lizzie is a great addition to this program. She is a technical player and will provide good quality play in the mid-field position. Lizzie, like her sister Hannah, will continue to help move this program in a positive direction," said Coach Shinohara about Graham.

Althea Dunn – Dunn comes to the Tornados from Denton, Texas. Dunn attended Vilseck High School in Germany where she played soccer for Kevin Anglim. She was a three-sport athlete, playing both tennis and basketball, along with soccer. On the playing field she was awarded the Golden Boot award which is for most goals scored in a season. She was named the 2010 Sports Woman of the Year at Vilseck, as well as, being named the Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also played ODP Europe under Coach Bill Bidinger while living in Germany. In the classroom, she was a Presidential Honor Roll member in both her junior and senior years.

Head coach Shinohara is excited about bringing Dunn into the Tornados program. "Thea has had a unique experience having played overseas in Germany. She has competed at a high level in club soccer there and will bring that high level of play here to Brevard. She will be a great asset to our back line and we are excited to see what she can do on the pitch."
