Brevard, N.C. - Former Brevard College linebacker Stanley Jones has signed a contract with the Alabama Hammers of the Southern Indoor Football League during the Hammers’ Inaugural season in the SIFL.
Jones signed a contract with the Hammers on February 20th to come into camp as a linebacker, but the 5-11 athlete has made the position switch to cornerback, where he lines up as the Hammers biggest corner on the roster.
"The indoor game is a lot faster, especially now since I’m a cornerback and the receivers get a running start," said Jones. "Being new to the professional game, I still have the linebacker mentality, but now I have to make the adjustment and change my game up to be successful."
Jones, a Spartanburg, S.C. native, finished his collegiate career with Brevard College as the all-time leader in tackles 344 tackles and leading the South Atlantic Conference in tackles and tackles per game in his senior season with 116 total tackles, averaging of 10.5 per game to go with four sacks and 12 tackles for loss in being named to the Don Hansen’s All-Super Region Two squad as a First Team selection in 2009. Jones also received numerous accolades, including being selected as a Preseason All-American Honorable mention in 2009 and Jones was a First team All-SAC linebacker in 2009, and a Second Team All-SAC linebacker in 2008.
When asked if he had anything to say to the BC faithful, Jones replied, "I miss being a part of Brevard College. The fans were and still are great and I wish Coach Hamilton and the staff nothing but the best in the 2011 year."
