Spartanburg, S.C. – The Brevard College track & field team competed in the Furman Invitational at Furman University on Saturday, April 9th. The Tornados had six individuals competing in the tournament.
On the women’s side, Angela Canale was the only female participant from Brevard College. Canale competed in both the 800 and the 1,500-meter runs. Canale was the seventh place finisher in the 800 meter run, while she finished in seventh in the 1500 meter run as well. She completed the 800 in 2:47.06 and the 1,500 in 5:27.63.
In the men’s competition, Brevard had multiple runners competing. Erik Gibbs ran in the men’s 800-meter run and finished in seventh of 10 competitors.
Gibbs completed the race in 2:02.69. Gibbs also competed in the 1,500-meter run along side teammates Josh Mower and Chris Shore. Gibbs set the pace for the Brevard runners coming in eighth, while Shore finished ninth and Mower placed 12th. Gibbs crossed the finish line in 4:27.76 and Shore finished just over a second behind at 4:28.78. Mower finished the race in 4:32.90.
The Tornados had four competitors in the 5,000-meter run on the men’s side. Jordan Tager led the way for Brevard coming in 10th place with a time of 16:41.49. Mower was next to cross the finish line for Brevard at 12th. Mower finished in 17:03.07. Shore and Tiffen Tapia were the final two Tornados to finish. Shore came in 16th with a time of 18:30.43, while Tapia finished 17th at 18:46.32.
The BC track & field team competes again on April 16th, when they travel to Augusta State in Augusta, Georgia.
