Wingate, N.C. - The Tornados dropped both games on Saturday evening against Wingate University to close out the 2011 South Atlantic Conference regular season. Brevard fell in the first game 24-4, while dropping the nightcap of the doubleheader 11-0.

Brevard falls to 13-28, 5-21 SAC, while Wingate improves to 30-20, 17-10 in conference play.

Game One: Wingate 24, Brevard 4

Kameron Armacost had a two RBI single in the top of the eighth to lead the Tornados offense in the first game, but Wingate used a 14-run third inning to capture the second game of the weekend, 24-4.

Wingate scored runs in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, but batted around twice in the third inning to capture the game early.

The Tornados offense started clicking late in the game as Steele Myers reached to lead off the eighth inning on a fielding error by the Wingate right fielder. Zack Merriken drew a walk, putting runners on first and third and Kramer Clark reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Myers to put Brevard on the board. Clark came around to score on a fielding error by the WU shortstop, and Armacost added a two-run single up the middle, playing Alex Bedenbaugh and Ethan Pressley for the BC offense in the game.

Game Two: Wingate 11, Brevard 0

Clark and Merriken had the lone hits for the Tornados in the nightcap, and Dodson McPherson drove in six runs for the Bulldogs in the second game as Wingate completed the conference sweep with their 11-0 victory.

Brevard returns home for Senior Day as they host Virginia Intermont College at Gil Coan Field on Tuesday, April 19th. First pitch of the doubleheader between the Tornados and the Cobras is set for 1 p.m.
