Madison, Wis. - The Brevard College Cycling team wrapped up the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in Madison, Wis. as they finished 20th overall, recording 25 points in the Criterium, 15 points in the Road Race and 34 points in the Team Time Trial to end the 2011 spring season.
Scott Hoffner led off the weekend for the Tornados, finishing 26th overall in the Road Race, crossing the line in 3:25:56. Bryan Underwood and Corey Meyer also finished in the top 50 in the event as Underwood finished with a time of 3:39:28, while Meyer passed three minutes later in 46th overall. Michael Palevo and Marshal Hartley were among the 25 riders who recorded a did not finish for the event.
The Tornados took the field for the Team Time Trial on Saturday morning for the first time in program history as the four man group took on several other teams from all over the country. Brevard finished ninth overall in the event, crossing the line in 43:55.89.
In the final event of the weekend, the Criterium, Hoffner was again the top finisher for Coach Thad Walker’s squad, finishing 18th overall with a time of 1:14:32. Underwood finished the line with a time of 1:14:36 to finish 34th overall, while Meyer and Palevo crossed the line back-to-back, finishing 42nd and 43rd overall to end Nationals for the Tornados.
