Hickory, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s soccer team was in action under the lights on Thursday night, as the Tornados fell to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne 1-0 in Hickory, N.C.
The loss drops the Tornados to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the SAC, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Bears controlled the ball for most of the 90 minutes of play, as the lone goal of the contest came in the 78th minute off the foot of Randy Taylor.
The first 45 minutes of the match was played to a 0-0 draw, however, the Tornados were out shot 9-0 in the first half of play.
Again in the second half the Bears came out firing, recording 10 shots to Brevard’s one.
The Bear’s finally broke through at the 77:38 mark, when Taylor found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Aaron Wheeler to put Lenoir-Rhyne up 1-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Jerry Hatsady had six saves on the night, as he faced an offensive onslaught from the Bears.
Fellow newcomer Miika Kastarinen had the lone shot of the game for BC.
The Tornados will continue their South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 20, as BC will play host to the Eagles of Carson-Newman at 4 p.m. The Bears will step out of SAC play, when they will play host to Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m.
