Charlotte, N.C. - The Tornados made it two in a row on Friday as they defeated Johnson & Wales University in the nightcap of the first day of the Johnson C. Smith Invitational Volleyball tournament in straight sets, 25-20, 25-11, 25-15.
Ashlie Morrison led the way for the Tornados (2-0) with nine kills as Brevard hit 24.7 percent in the match. Jamie Atkinson added six kills of her own, while Kortney Conner placed in five to pace the BC attack. Bethany Stevenson added 20 set assists and three service aces. Lindsey Rogers fell one service ace shy of the all-time Brevard single game record, placing seven in the match as the Tornados fired in 19 aces in the match.
Defensively, the Tornados defended the net as a team with nine total blocks, while Kortney Conner led the way with five digs.
Felicia Anderson led the way for Johnson & Wales (1-8), recording a team high seven kills in the match. Kristen Hall added four, while Kaitlin Kuntz had eight set assists. Hall also added four service aces, while Tori Dublino led the Wildcats with seven digs.
The Tornados continue play in the two-day event in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, September 3rd, as they take on Fayetteville State University at 9 a.m.
