Brevard, N.C. - Seniors Holli Flippo, Lindsay Brendle and Anna Schlobohm return for their final campaign and Coach Shannon Reid will again man the sidelines as the Brevard College women’s basketball team released their 2011-2012 schedule, as announced by the BC Athletic Department on Wednesday morning/afternoon.
The Tornados enter their fourth year as members of the South Atlantic Conference and the NCAA Division II and this season looks to be one of their toughest yet as Brevard will take on three NCAA Regional tournament teams, including a preseason contest with 2011 NCAA Division II National Champion Clayton State University, but the Tornados look forward to the season with optimism behind the stability and determination of Coach Reid’s first four year senior class.
Brevard will play 14 games away from the friendly confines of Boshamer Gymnasium, while hosting 12 contests in front of the Blue and White faithful.
The Tornados will open the preseason schedule with a scrimmage in Morrow, Ga. against Clayton State on October 29th.
The second weekend in November marks the beginning of the 2011-2012 regular season, as the Tornados open up the year on the road on Saturday, November 12th, in Belmont, N.C. against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders, and remain on the road as they take on Erskine.
Brevard will return home for their next six contests as the Tornados open their home portion of the schedule with non-conference games against King, Tennessee Wesleyan and Mount Olive, before taking on the Anderson Trojans on November 30th in Boshamer Gymnasium in the 2011 SAC Home Opener.
The Tornados open up the month of December with games at home against Tusculum and Pfeiffer, before parting for Christmas break.
However, Brevard will face one of their toughest tests when they come back, as they make the trip to Asheville, N.C., taking on NCAA Division I UNC Asheville. Last season, the Tornados defeated the Bulldogs in the Justice Center, 71-61, behind a balanced attack in which four Brevard players score in double figures.
The Tornados open the New Year on the road as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on Carson-Newman on January 4th, and continue their road trip against Mars Hill, before returning home to host SAC opponent Catawba and Young Harris.
Brevard closes out the rest of the season in conference play as they take on Lenoir-Rhyne (twice), Lincoln Memorial (twice), Wingate (twice), Newberry (twice), Anderson, Carson-Newman, Tusculum, Catawba and Mars Hill, with Senior Day coming on February 22nd against the Newberry Wolves.
The first round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Women’s Basketball tournament will be held at the higher-seed host institutions on February 29th, with the semifinals and finals to be held on March 3rd-4th at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C.
