TORNADOS UNABLE TO HOLD OFF PACER COMEBACK IN FALLING 2-1

Rasinmaki scores second goal of the season on penalty kick

Aiken, S.C. - Tommi Rasinmaki placed in his second goal of the young season in the first half of play at the Pacer Pit, giving the Tornados their first lead of the 2011 season, but USC Aiken rallied to take the lead going into the half. Both sides were held scoreless in the second half as Brevard fell to 0-3 on the season with the 2-1 defeat.

Rasinmaki came out firing for the Tornados, recording a match-high five shots, challenging Pacer goalkeeper Robert Bolender twice in the opening 30 minutes of the match, before an Aiken foul in the goal box set up a penalty kick. The sophomore from Tampere, Finland drilled the ball into the back of the net at the 32:27 mark, giving the Tornados the 1-0 advantage.

The Pacers struck back quickly as less than two minutes later Michael Ardrey found net past BC goalkeeper Jack Shaw, placing a shot into the lower right corner of the net off the layoff from Scott Newby to tie the match up at 1 apiece.

Newby followed up his assist with a goal of his own before the half, striking at the 36:43 mark as he turned in the box off the pass from Samuel Korosi and sent a shot into the right corner of the net, putting Aiken up 2-1.

Adam Martin and Patrick Urmson combined for six shots in the second half for the Tornados, but Brevard was unable to score the tying goal in the closing minutes in falling in the match, 2-1.

Brevard returns to the BC Soccer Field to face an old foe from the Tornados NAIA days as they welcome Bluefield College on Saturday, September 10th. Kickoff between the old Appalachian Athletic Conference rivals is set for 5 p.m.
