Tornados outshot 22-4 in dropping fourth straight SAC game

Greeneville, Tenn. - All-SAC performer Bruno Conceicao scored a pair of goals as No. 21 Tusculum College breezed past Brevard College, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Field. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-1 and even their South Atlantic Conference record at 1-1. Brevard falls to 1-7-1 (0-4 SAC).

The Pioneers dominated the Tornados in the opening 45, attempting 10 shots to their opponent's one, but it did not show on the scoreboard, as the teams went to the intermission scoreless. But Conceicao (Valencia, Bahia) finally tore the lid off the goal in the 51st minute. Corey McPherson (Dallas, Tex.) headed a ball into the box, which Anteneh Lemma (Stockholm, Sweden) passed on to Conceicao. The senior striker touched the ball past Brevard keeper Jerry Hatsady (Orlando, Fla.) to make the score 1-0.

Conceicao completed his brace in the 80th minute on another assist from McPherson. After McPherson's initial shot was blocked by Hatsady, the junior Texan linked up with his fellow striker, who again buried the ball to double the lead at 2-0. The goal is Conceicao's tenth in just eight matches in 2008.

The final nail in the coffin came in the 88th minute when Lemma tallied a goal of his own. After Conceicao served a beautiful lead pass, Lemma dribbled past Hatsady and set the score at its final 3-0 line.

Brevard forward Miika Kasterinen (Jyvasleya, Finland) was the only Tornado to put a shot on goal, but it was saved by Tusculum keeper Lance Moore (Morristown, Tenn.). Hatsady allowed the three goals but did his part to keep the result respectable, stopping six of TC's nine shots on goal.

Brevard resumes its quest for a second win Saturday against Toccoa Falls College. The home match begins at 4 p.m. Tusculum hosts Wingate University on Saturday in a battle of teams ranked in the top five of the NSCAA Division II Southeast region rankings. The showdown begins at 7 p.m.
