Greenville, S.C. - Madison Hill continued her stretch of top 10 finishes and Josh Mower placed 26th overall in the men’s race as the Tornados men’s team placed eighth among the field while the women took sixth overall at the Furman Invitational on Saturday morning.
Hill placed sixth overall in the race, crossing the line of the women’s 5K in 19:13, and was second overall among Division II runners behind Anderson’s Whitney Bishoff. Angela Canale crossed the line a minute and a half later at 20:47, finishing 30th overall in the race, while Heidi Kaartinen and Ariel Muiselaar both placed in the top 50 in the event, crossing the line in 43rd and 49th respectively. Ashley Lowe crossed the line at the 25:42 mark and Grace Meanor rounded out the group with a time of 27:41 as the Tornados as a team finished second overall among Division II schools in attendance.
Mower led the Tornados in the men’s race as the sophomore crossed the line in 26th overall with a time of 27:42. Jordan Tager was less than a minute behind, recording a 28:14 on the course and finishing 32nd overall, while senior Jonathan LaVelle was 42nd with a time of 29:07. Erik Gibbs and Chris Shore were both in the top 60 with finishes of 53rd and 55th, while Christopher Shelton and Jourdane Landry both took the course for Coach Jack Daniels.
The Tornados will be back in action in two weeks as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take part of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships. The runners will take the course at 9 a.m.
