Harrogate, N.C. - Kim Koivu took medalist honors for the Tornados at the Fall LMU Invitational, following up a first round 71 with the lowest round of the tournament on day two, 66, 6-under to take the top honors among the 85 golfers who took on the course in the two day event.
The individual championship is the first for the Tornados men’s golf team in the 2011-2012 season and first for the freshman from Helsinki, Finland, as the Tornados as a team finished up ninth overall with a two round score of 607.
Koivu led the team, finishing with a two round score of 137, and his second round 66 was the lowest in Brevard College history, with his final score, 7-under, 137 was the lowest tournament round in the BC men's golf program history.
Thomas Rennie and T.J. Hoard both tied for 36th overall in the tournament. Rennie cut 10 strokes off his first round score to finish with a 152, while Hoard carded a 78 in the second round to match the score with a 152.
Michael Stamper also took on the field with a 166, while Xiaoran Li closed out his first collegiate tournament, improving on his first round total by three strokes in finishing with a 183.
The Tornados will be back in action in the spring as they prepare to begin the journey leading to the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament.
