Brevard, N.C. - Ashlie Morrison led the Brevard attack with nine kills, hitting 31.8 percent and Kortney Conner added five kills for the Tornados, but Anna Hilton led visiting Wingate with 10 kills and Maggie Malone had a match-high 17 digs as the Brevard fell to #15 Wingate on Wednesday evening, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20.

Jamie Atkinson and Jordei Osby added four kills apiece for Brevard (6-20, 0-15 SAC) as the Tornados hit 36.1 percent from the floor in the first set as they challenged the Bulldogs early. Bethany Stevenson added 14 set assists, while Rogers led the back line with 15 digs to pace the Brevard defense.

Grace Krauser added eight kills for Wingate (24-0, 15-0 SAC), hitting 57.1 percent from the floor, while Cory McGowan added seven kills to lead the Bulldogs to the victory. Liz Willis had a game high 28 set assists and Susie Murach added seven digs to go with five kills as Wingate clinched the 2011 regular season SAC Championship.

A Krauser kill gave Wingate an early 8-4 lead in the opening set. Brevard battled back, using a 4-0 run to take a 14-13 lead on a Jordei Osby kill. The Tornados took a two-point lead when a Conner kill made it 17-15. Wingate battled back, tying the set at 19 on a kill by Murach, then taking a 20-19 advantage on a Brevard error.

The Tornados tied the set one final time when a Conner kill made it 23-23. A kill from McGowan put Wingate on top by one, while a block from McGowan and Lexi Potter finished the opening frame in favor of Wingate, 25-23.

A kill and a block from Krauser helped the Bulldogs jump out to a 13-5 lead in the second set. Sydney Yeomans answered with a kill for the Tornados, but Wingate responded with three straight points, sparked by a Krauser kill, to go on top 16-6. Brevard battled back, cutting the lead to 24-16 after a 5-1 run sparked by a Stevenson service ace, but the rally fell short as Wingate closed out the frame, 25-16.

The Tornados scored four of the first five points in the third set on kills by Atkinson and Morrison, as well as a block by Osby and Morrison, but Wingate rallied back to tie the set up at five apiece on a Brevard attack error. The set would remain close until Wingate went on a 4-0 spurt to go up 23-18, capped by a kill by Janice Ehorn. The Bulldogs would keep the advantage to close out the set 25-20, taking the match.
