Brevard falls on Friday evening to Railsplitters in straight sets

Harrogate, Tenn. - Erin Rollins led the way with six kills and Jordei Osby added five and three blocks as the Tornados opened their final road weekend of the season, but Blaire Fowler led Lincoln Memorial with 13 kills and 10 digs as the Tornados fell to the Railsplitters 25-22, 25-16, 25-7.

Ashlie Morrison added four kills for Brevard (6-23, 0-17 SAC) and Bethany Stevenson and Erin Cox combined for 18 set assists to pace the Tornados, while Lindsey Rogers had a team high 14 digs.

Jennifer Drum added nine kills to the Lincoln Memorial (21-5, 13-4 SAC) attack, while Kristen Cantrell led the Railsplitters defense with 15 digs. Chelsea Ferron also reached double digits in providing 10 digs for LMU, while Allison Beavers had a match high 20 set assists in the Railsplitters victory.

The first set featured 13 ties and 11 lead changes as both teams struggled to gain advantage in the set. The Tornados build their largest lead of the opening frame after a Morrison service ace put BC up 17-14, but back-to-back Fowler service aces fueled a 4-0 run by the Railsplitters as LMU went up 18-17. With the score knotted at 22 apiece, LMU took control behind a kill by Drum and a block by Kaitlin Walton and Megan Bell closed out the set in favor of the hosts, 25-22.

A Rollins kill evened the second set at seven, but LMU responded with a 9-1 run aided by a pair of service aces by Beavers to take control at 16-8. Back-to-back Rollins kills sparked a Brevard comeback as the Tornados went on an 8-2 run to bring it back to 18-16, but Brittany Pugh closed out the set for the Railsplitters, 25-16.

In the third set, Lincoln Memorial scored 17 of the first 21 points in the set to take control and after a kill by Cassie Smatana extended the match, Fowler closed out the Railsplitter victory after the 25-7 set win.

The Tornados wrap up the 2011 regular season on Saturday, November 5th as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. and the Holt Fieldhouse as they take on Carson-Newman. First serve between the Tornados and the Eagles is set for 5 p.m.
