Brevard falls on the road in non-conference play, 68-61

Tigerville, S.C. - Darius Moose scored a career high 20 points and Aleksandar Vasiljevic scored 12 points and added seven rebounds, but Paul Harrison led three Crusaders in double figures as the Tornados fell in Hayes Gymnasium on Wednesday evening to North Greenville, 68-61.

A Chavis Hamilton jumper in the paint gave the Tornados (0-3) the 43-42 lead in the second half, helping Brevard overcome a 14-4 deficit to start off the game, but North Greenville (2-0) capped off a 12-2 run on a Harrison dunk to put the Crusaders back up by 11 as North Greenville held off a late comeback in recording the victory.

Moose recorded his first collegiate 20 point game against the Crusaders, shooting 9-for-14 from the floor and added five rebounds in the defeat. Gaither Hendrix added 15 points, hitting three three-pointers, while Vasiljevic recorded his first collegiate double-digit game with 12 points and seven rebounds, six on the offensive glass as Brevard fell for the third time this season.

Harrison led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down a game high nine rebounds as North Greenville improves to 2-0 on the season. Luke Lattimer hit three three-pointers to add 17 points to the NGU offensive attack, while Tim Franklin scored 13 points and had four assists in the victory.

Vasiljevic scored on an offensive put-back as Brevard opened the scoring for the third consecutive game this season, but Franklin answered with a layup to even the score as North Greenville opened the contest with a 14-4 run, capped by a pair of Jonathan Bozymowski free throws. The Tornados battled back, scoring the next seven points to bring the game back to within three after Dominique Pickett’s layup at the 11:29 mark.

North Greenville again built a double-digit lead, going up by 16 at 31-15 on a Lattimer jump shot with 5:16 on the clock, but the Tornados closed out the half with an 8-0 run, with Hendrix finishing the span with a three-pointer as the teams went into the break with North Greenville holding the 31-23 advantage.

The Brevard stretch continued as the Tornados scored the first five points of the second half on another Hendrix three and a jumper by Moose as BC fought back to take the 43-42 lead with 12:38 remaining following a Hamilton jumper in the paint off the pass from Vasiljevic.

Chris Dean followed with a dunk off the offensive rebound to give the lead back to North Greenville as the Crusaders went on a 14-2 run to go back up 11 with 7:02 to play.

The Tornados continued to fight back, keeping the game within striking distance as Moose scored five points in the final minute of the game, but North Greenville was able to close out the contest at the free throw line as Brevard fell 68-61.

Brevard remains on the road this weekend as they travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to take part in the 46th Annual Mount Olive College Pickle Classic on Friday, November 18th. Tipoff in first round action between Brevard and host Mount Olive is set for 7:30 p.m.
