Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College’s Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach David Nelson is pleased to announce the hiring of Parker Reeves as the Assistant Golf Coach for the spring 2012 golf season.
"I’m absolutely delighted Parker has decided to join our coaching staff. As a teaching professional, he will enhance our ability to develop players within the program. He understands the golf swing, and more importantly loves teaching. From a recruiting standpoint, his participation will only make our programs that much more attractive," said Nelson. "We already offer great courses to play in the region, an excellent tournament schedule, and a campus located in the one of the most beautiful settings in the country. Our ability to attract student-athletes from all over the county, and abroad, just got better."
Reeves comes to Brevard from Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, where he served as the Assistant Golf Professional. Among his duties at Scioto included scheduling and teaching golf lessons, managing the junior interclub program and supervising and overseeing weekly junior play days. He also co-supervised the summer junior golf camp and part of his daily responsibilities included monitoring and maintaining pace of play and keeping a daily round count.
"I would like to thank Coach Nelson as well as Mr. Mascaro for allowing me this wonderful opportunity. I appreciate their faith in me to help our kids grow not only as players, but as human beings," commented Reeves. "It feels great to be a part of the Brevard College family. Brevard’s combination of academics and athletics is quickly becoming known throughout the area and the campus is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I am very excited to be a part of the Tornado Golf Program and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store."
Prior to Scioto, Reeves served as the Assistant Caddie Master at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. where he was responsible for supervising and delegating responsibilities for 250 caddies. He also performed club repair for the Oakmont members and their guests, as well as served as the golf shop assistant at the Oakmont East Golf Course.
Reeves also served as a Golf Shop Assistant at both the Scioto Country Club and the Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J., helping maintain a professional shop, while also overseeing junior play days and clinics.
A 2010 graduate of Campbell University, Reeves was a member of the 2009 and 2010 PGA Golf Management Carolinas Cup Championship Golf teams, placing second in the individual standings in 2010. He was also a member of the 2007 PGA Golf Management Jones Cup Championship team.
Following graduation, he was a playing member of the 2011-2012 NGA Hooters Tour Winter Carolina Series. He also served as a Weekly Golf Columnist for The Mountaineer from November 2010-April 2011 and is a past Monthly Golf Columnist for the Tee Times Magazine.
Reeves holds a Class A PGA Certification.
"I have been fortunate to work with some of the top teachers in the game of golf. From Mike Adams and Don Sargent, to Bob Ford and Eric Johnson, I have been very lucky to watch and learn the art of teaching someone how to play golf rather than teaching someone about golf," said Reeves. "I hope to use the knowledge I have learned over the years from these teachers as well as the PGA of America to help the program continue to grow and improve. While golf is what our teams are most known for, I hope that success in the classroom and in the community will be a focal point for all of our players. There are many things bigger than the game and I hope to help our players keep golf in the proper perspective."
