TORNADOS SWEEP PAST VALKYRIES IN STRAIGHT SETS

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Brevard College women’s volleyball team was in action on Saturday afternoon as they swept through the Converse College Valkyries, winning in straight sets, (25-17, 25-19, 25-16).

With the win, the Tornados improve to 9-7 on the season, 1-4 in conference play, while the Valkyries fall to 2-18.

The Tornados came out on fire, leading the entire way en route to a 25-17 first set victory behind Chelsey Trojan and Brooke Seaman, each recording four kills.

The score seesawed back and forth at the beginning of the second set as the Tornados fell behind, 7-9. However, behind the serve of senior captain Jami Perry the Tornados began a 6-0 run to put the game in Brevard’s favor. After a Brevard timeout when Converse brought the game back within a point, the Tornados took control of the set, serving out to win, 25-19. Seaman and Trojan again led the way, with five kills and two kills respectively, while Perry contributed with an ace and nine assists.

The third set was all Tornados as they built an early 10-1 lead and sealed the match when freshman Ashlie Morrison spiked home the clinching shot off the pass from Brooke Sturgill to end the game, 25-16.

For the game, the Tornados were lead by Seaman who had a 43% killing percentage on her way to recording14 kills to go along with a service ace, a solo block, and three block assists. Trojan added eight kills, while freshman Chelsea Larsen contributed with five kills of her own.

As a team the Tornados had six service aces in the three set match.

Defensively, both Trojan and Perry were all over the court as each recorded 11 digs, and libero Rebecca Schoonover and sophomore Cori Emory patrolled the backline picking up eight apiece.

The Tornados are back on the court when they travel to Greeneville, Tenn. to continue their SAC schedule as they take on Tusculum College on Wednesday, October 8th, with first serve at 7 p.m. Converse heads down to Hickory, N.C. on Tuesday, October 7th, as they take on Lenoir-Rhyne with a start time of 7 p.m.
