Brevard falls to Bearcats at McCoy Tennis Complex

Brevard, N.C. - Beau Wills took the straight set victory on court no. 2 for the Tornados on Friday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex, but led by a sweep at doubles, #11 Lander University topped Brevard, 8-1.

The Tornados fall to 1-2 on the season, while Lander improves to 3-1.

The Bearcats took all three doubles matches to start off the afternoon as Maxime Desmars and Gary Bertoldo topped Jonathon Lavelle and George Finch on court no. 3, 8-0. Renato Assad and Stefan Klemenz topped Brevard’s Rory Northam and Stefano Giovanolli, 8-2 on court no. 2, and Sam MacNeil and Beau Wills fell in a tightly contested match as Vincent Verpeaux and Samuel Poutignat completed the sweep with their 9-8 victory.

Lander took the singles matches on courts 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to claim the victory over the Tornados, but Wills prevented the afternoon sweep, leading Brevard to a win on court no. 2 as he topped Diego Zegarra in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Brevard remains at home in non-conference play as the Tornados take on Young Harris College on Sunday, February 26th. First serve in doubles competition between the Tornados and the Mountain Lions is set for 1 p.m.
