Monticello, Fla. - Jimmy Schurman delivered the Tornados a win in the Men’s "A" road race at the first race of the season and teamwork was the name of the game all weekend as the BC team worked together to produce top finishes in each of the races at Florida State
In the Saturday road race, Schurman broke away from the pack with riders from the University of Florida and King College just six miles into the fifty-four mile race. Teammates Wyatt Briggs, Brandon Milet, and Caleb Welborn covered various attempts by other teams to bridge the gap, which eventually grew to six minutes. When it became clear that the breakaway was going to be successful, Welborn broke away with four other riders from Florida, King, South Florida and Florida State. Schurman finished first in the event with Welborn crossing in eighth and Milet 15th.
In the Sunday criterium, Schurman broke away early once again with a King rider, ten minutes into the sixty-minute race. Eventually a four-man group, including Briggs, bridged the gap to the lead group, and they managed to hold off the pack for the rest of the race. Schurman and Briggs finished fourth and fifth. Welborn and Milet, who were covering various attempts by other teams to bridge the gap, finished 14th and 17th.
Also representing BC at FSU were Lewis Gaffney and Keith Marek in the Men’s "B" events, and Dillon Brown in the Men’s "C" events.
