Rock Hill, S.C. - Brevard College freshman shortstop Cody Queen continued his string of success in the early part of the 2012 season by being named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his play in leading the Tornados to their first SAC series sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne this past weekend.
Queen hit .600 on the week with 12 hits in 20 at-bats in leading the Brevard College Tornados to a 3-2 week and became the first BC baseball player to earn SAC Player of the Week honors since Brevard became a member of the conference in 2008.
Against the Bears, Queen was 9-for-12 from the plate with two home runs, a double and three stolen bases, driving in three runs while scoring eight times in the series to lead the Tornados in outscoring the Bears 33-11 on the weekend.
Queen hit two home runs in a 4-for-5 performance from the plate in the 8-1 Brevard victory over Lenoir-Rhyne to open the weekend, then went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the 14-1 win against the Bears. In Sunday’s victory, Queen was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in the Tornados series sweep clinching 11-9 victory.
Queen added hits in both games against Lander and Limestone as the freshman shortstop is currently on a five game hitting streak pacing the Tornados to their best start since Brevard became an NCAA institution back in 2008.
For the season, Queen leads the Tornados in multiple offensive categories and is in the top 10 in the SAC in multiple categories including run scored with 18 on the season and batting average (.409).
